"In Aleppo and elsewhere, 3,000 local volunteers try to rescue the victims of mass bombing raids – at great risk to their own lives. They deserve global recognition!" (The Guardian, 5.10.2016)
They are unarmed volunteers risking their lives to help anyone in need - regardless of their religion or politics. Known as the White Helmets these volunteer rescue workers operate in the most dangerous place on earth. What they do is actually mission impossible.
We have been hearing about them during all these times of the war in Syria. We have seen them. We have heard their voices and screams and cheers of happiness when they have found a living human being in those destroyed cities.
Simple people such as teachers, carpenters and tailors are doing what the world, the UN, the EU, most of all the every single one participating in this stupid war - should do.
They are saving lives! The collateral damage of this war is outrageous.
This western-funded Syrian search-and-rescue organisation whose members put their lives at great risk to save civilians, receiving only a monthly stipend of $150. The White Helmets do what they can. However, Bashar al-Assad has compared these humanitarian activists to terrorists, the Guardian noted.
As the conflict in Syria is getting worse, ordinary people are paying the highest price. More than 50 bombs a day. When this happens the White Helmets rush in to search for life in the rubble. These volunteers have saved 62,000 lives - until now.
Who are they?
I saw this post to support them, to nominate them for the Nobel peace prize.
I did. But I must admit. I do have second thoughts.
They are doing what some other people should do! Or other people shouldn't be doing in order to avoid this situation - this war!
I hope, in a couple of hours their Nobel peace prize will be announced!
What I am afraid of is, that they will not be able to receive it. They might loose their life too. They might not even know this whole campaign is going on.
If they win the Nobel peace prize, the war should be ended. Stop. Over. And that's it.
Otherwise, this will be another unfair collateral damage. And we all will be guilty too.
